Robotic Surgery

World-class surgical care is now accessible to all residents of the NYC and tri-state area. The Institute for Robotic Surgery is home to the latest in surgical technology and the most experienced surgeons, making us one of the leading surgical centers in robotic and minimally-invasive surgery.

Since 2019, the Institute for Robotic Surgery has provided patients with access to the most sophisticated robotic technology available. We are proud to be one of the only hospitals in the tri-state area to offer robotic-assisted surgery, which has been proven to result in the best patient outcomes.

In 2020, the Institute for Robotic Surgery earned its first Center of Excellence designation in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), a feat achieved only by a handful of hospitals in the United States. In 2022, we received five additional Center of Excellence titles in Minimally Invasive Gynecology, Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, Robotic Joint Replacement, Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Robotic Spine Surgery. The Institute for Robotic Surgery was the first in the world to be named a Center of Excellence in Robotic Spine Surgery; our spine division is now setting the standard in technology and expertise for fellow hospitals and surgical centers, collaborating with the SRC to build the criteria for the new spine surgery accreditation model, and ensuring that we continue to achieve it.

Why Robotic Surgery?

Robotic surgery pairs minimally-invasive techniques with state-of-the-art technology to produce the best surgical outcomes. Using robotic technology, our surgeons are able to create 3D surgical plans prior to a procedure, feed high-definition cameras into small incisions to visualize the operating area without disturbing any surrounding muscle or tissue, and execute with perfect precision using robotic arms and other equipment that move with a greater range of motion than the human hand ever could. While each of our robots contributes to the efficiency of the operating room in a slightly different way, they were all developed with the ultimate goal of making the procedure as safe as possible for the patient.

Robotic surgery offers many advantages over traditional open procedures, including:

  • Greater precision and better overall patient outcomes
  • Shorter surgeries and less radiation exposure and time spent under anesthesia
  • Small incisions and small scars
  • Less disturbance of tissue and muscle
  • Less risk of infection
  • Less pain
  • Quicker recovery and less downtime

The Institute for Robotic Surgery offers robotic surgery in several specialties, including:

  • Bariatrics
  • General Surgery
  • Gynecology
  • Orthopedics
  • Podiatry
  • Spine
  • Urology
